Windows 2012 Disk Cleanup Utility

Windows 2012 Disk Cleanup Utility

Windows 2012 Disk Cleanup utility, is one of the few utilities that are disabled by default in Server 2012. Few days ago, i wanted to run the Disk cleanup utility on Server 2012 R2 to clear the temporary files. So i opened “This PC” and right clicked the C Drive and selected Properties.

Drive Properties

To my surprise, there was no Disk Cleanup Button, because this utility and some other utilities/features are part of “Desktop Experience” feature, that are disable by default.

To enable this utility we need to enable  the”Desktop Experience”, as a result the disk cleanup utility will be enabled.

Desktop Experience:

The desktop experience in Server 2012 has the following features:

  • Windows Media Player
  • Video for Windows (AVI support)
  • Windows SideShow

  • Character Map
  • Snipping Tool
  • Support for desktop apps
  • Windows Store
  • PC settings (Change PC settings)
  • Play slide show on lock screen

To enable this feature, the procedure for Server 2012 and Server 2012 R2 is same. So open the Server Manager, afterwards click “Add Roles and Features”. Click Next, Next until you reach the Features section. In the Features, go to “User Interface and Infrastructure” section.

Outlook Data File Cannot be Accessed Error 0x8004010f

Sometimes you may face an error in outlook, “Outlook Data File Cannot be Accessed” while sending/receiving the emails. This error indicates that the Outlook cannot access the data file. Different versions of Outlook including Outlook 2007, 2010, 2013 and Outlook 2016 may face this issue. The error looks like this:

Outlook Data File Cannot be Accessed

Reasons:

There could be two main reasons for this error:

  1. The oultook pst files in the Outlook profile are pointing to the wrong location.
  2. The outlook profile has corrupted.

Solutions:

The solution are quite simple. You can try the following:

  1. Link the data files to the existing Profile:

First of all, if you moved the outlook files to another location, you can try to link them to your outlook profile.

Go to Control Panel and open Mail and select your Profile and click Properties. Here click Data Files. Now click “Open file location” and point to the location where you stored the data files. Set the newly pointed data files as Default and remove the previous entry. Now close the Account settings and open the outlook. This time outlook will be able to access the Outlook files.

2. Create Ne Outlook Profile:

In case your outlook files are pointing to the correct location and still you are facing this issue, it could be because of corrupt outlook profile. To fix this issue, you can try to create a new profile.

Go to Control Panel and open Mail. Click Show Profiles and then click Add, give the new profile a name and click OK. Fill out the Outlook information and complete the configuration. Once the profile is created, set it as Default Profile. Finally, open the outlook (it will open with the new profile) and you will have a fresh, error free outlook profile.
